Small-sided planning made visual

5-a-Side Tactics Board

5-a-side is compact, fast, and unforgiving when the shape breaks down. Whether you run a Sunday league team or coach a youth 5v5 tournament, the difference between a drilled side and a chaotic one often comes down to how clearly you explained the plan.
FTB is a free online tactics board that makes that explanation fast and visual.

Common 5-a-side formations

FTB includes templates for all the standard 5v5 setups. Load one in a tap and start drawing from there.

1-2-1 (the diamond)

A versatile shape with natural width, depth, and triangles all over the pitch.

2-2 (the square)

A compact, defensively solid flat shape that needs energetic movement to create width in attack.

1-3 (high line)

An aggressive setup that asks a lot of the outfield players and suits teams that want to dominate the ball.

3-1 (defensive block)

A practical option when protecting a lead and playing through a hold-up player.

Draw the movements, not just the shape

Dropping players onto a pitch is one thing. Showing your striker when to spin, where to press, and when to hold the line is another. FTB's drawing tools let you map out passing combinations, pressing triggers, defensive transitions, and set-piece routines.
In a small-sided game where every player touches the ball constantly, clear movement patterns make a real difference.
03

Plan your set pieces

Corners, free kicks, and kick-ins in 5-a-side can be rehearsed in seconds on the board. Set up your players in the exact positions you want, draw the runs and passes, and share the link with your team before training.

Works for futsal too

FTB's 5v5 setup works just as well for futsal tactics. The smaller pitch, faster transitions, and rotation patterns benefit from the same kind of visual planning.
